Remote Codes

LG has non-standard menu instead of typical menus found in other MediaTek powered DVD players. Also normal remote control codes for MT13x9 chipsets seems to be not working even DK172 has MT1389FE. Some codes for older LG player appears to be working. dvdrhelp.com is good place to go adventureous.

  1. Open disc tray
  2. Press SETUP
  3. Navigate to DISPLAY menu and highlight TV ASPECT -> 16:9
  4. Press 1,3,9,7,1,3,9
  5. Press ENTER

 The Editor
There is some sort of eeprom editor for ruining your player.
  1. Reboot the player without any disc inserted (open disc tray)
  2. Press STOP
  3. Press PAUSE
  4. Press 1,4,7,2
  5. Use LEFT/RIGHT to navigate
  6. Press NUMBERS to brick your Precious. Push buttons 1-6 longer to get a-f (HEX)
  7. Press PAUSE to exit
Factory default: 55 53 00 d3 03 55 f4 00

Region free hack

Special DK172 region free codes found in dvdrhelp.com seems to be also a no go. Someone pointed out that there is a special CD for LG DV5xxx series players that also works for DK172. Burn this ISO-image to a CD-R/RW and enjoy your imports.

 The Program
Service CD inserted. Press suitable region number. For most 0 (zero) is applicable. Apply with PAUSE. Front panel also shows current region.
